Frequently asked questions about job coaching and job search coaching

Is coaching right for me, and how do I know which type of service I need?

Coaching can be tremendously beneficial for anyone who wants to achieve personal or professional growth. Whether you’re struggling to adapt to a new country, feeling stagnant in your career in the Netherlands, or simply seeking to explore your motivations and goals, our coaching services are tailored to meet your unique needs.

Our job search coaching service, on the other hand, is specifically designed for individuals who want to focus on finding a new job or switching careers. If you’re unsure which type of service would be right for you, we offer a free introductory call to help you identify your goals and determine how we can best support you.

What is Dijk & Van Emmerik’s approach to job coaching and career search for internationals and refugees?

At Dijk & Van Emmerik we understand that the cultural component plays a significant role when it comes to adapting to a new job position and navigating the career search process in a new country. Even if we haven’t consciously thought about it, culture has a profound impact on our experiences. Therefore, we consider this factor when designing a personalized program for you.

Our approach takes into account the specific challenges you may face in a new country, such as cultural differences in interviewing techniques, networking strategies, and resume writing styles. This allows us to provide tailored support and guidance that helps you effectively navigate the job market and successfully pursue your career goals.

How is the coaching financed?

Coaching can be financed in different ways depending on your personal circumstances. In many cases, companies and employers in the Netherlands have budgets allocated for coaching or personal development that can be used to cover the costs.

In other cases, individuals finance coaching on their own. If you fall into the latter category, we can provide a personalized proposal that considers the number of sessions and aligns with your budget. For more information on financing options and to discuss your specific situation, please feel free to contact us.

How is refugee career guidance financed?

We understand that financial barriers may exist for refugees, and we want to assure you that our services are available to support your needs when seeking for employment opportunities. We are committed to making our services accessible and are open to partnering with organizations dedicated to supporting refugees in their job search.

Please contact us to discuss options.

Where does the coaching take place and what is the frequency?

Coaching sessions can either take place at our offices located at Derkinderenstraat 24, near Lelylaan train, metro and tram station in Amsterdam or online, depending on your preferences. The frequency of sessions is determined by both the client and coach. Typically, sessions are scheduled biweekly or weekly, depending on the client’s needs and wants.

About our team

Most of our coaches are organisational psychologists aside from being experts in the job and labour market field. Part of our team made the transition from their home country to working in the Netherlands themselves and other (Dutch) team members have worked abroad as international professionals. Because of our professional knowledge and personal experience, we have firsthand knowledge of the difficulties associated with adjusting to a new country and culture.

Our vision

Working in a new country is a significant change that can bring about feelings of self-doubt, insecurity, and other overwhelming emotions, which can impact our performance in both work and personal life. Even if you have been living in The Netherlands for years, being an international individual still influences our perspectives, the way we live, and how we experience the world. That’s why we firmly believe that understanding how this transition impacts all areas of our lives is essential for achieving growth and fulfilment.
